OVERVIEW
A five-day and four night trip through the rural landscape of Northern Kansai. Visit a beautifully preserved brick factory, a rarity in Japan. Walk along the Bridge to Heaven, Amanohashidate. This pine tree covered sandbar is one of Japan’s three most beautiful views. Travel to Japan’s “Sicily” a small fishing village with houses built right on the port, each with their own garages for their fishing boats. From northern Kyoto you will travel along the coast to Kinosaki Onsen, Japan’s premier hot spring village. Enjoy the healing waters of all seven natural hot springs. Visit Izushi, the nearby castle town that flourished in the Edo era and building from that time (200-300years ago) still stand in pristine condition. On your last day you will head back towards Kansai International airport and spend a day and night in Osaka, also known as “Japan’s Kitchen”.

DAY 1
Kansai International Airport / KYOTO

Travel from Kansai International Airport to Kyoto. Spend a day exploring the old capital and spend one night in Kyoto

From Kyoto City travel north by train to Maizuru and Amanohashidate, the site of one of Japan’s three most beautiful views.

Travel along Northern Kansai’s seaboard in the early morning and watch the sun rise over Ine Bay. Ine is also know as “Japan’s Sicily” because of the boat houses built along the port’s water edge. Enjoy lunch while overlooking the bay. Then head west to Japan’s premier hot spring town, Kinosaki Onsen and enjoy the towns 7 natural hot spring bath houses.

DAY 4
KINOSAKI ONSEN / IZUSHI / OSAKA

Explore the onsen town and its seven public bathhouses. Should you be staying in Kinosaki check with your accommodations to see if you receive a free ticket to the onsen. After a quick morning soak in the hot springs head over to the information center SOZORO to catch the city bus to Izushi, the old castle town. Here you can stroll along the streets and see well preserved buildings from 200-300 years ago. Visit the old castle grounds, try your hand at making soba - Japanese buckwheat noodles special to the area, or clear your mind with zazen (seated meditation) at the local temple. Afterwards, head back to Kinosaki Onsen to catch the train down to Osaka for the night.

9:45 Catch bus from Sozoro Tourist Information center to Izushi Castle Town
10:30 Explore Izushi Castle Town (Soba making / stroll around the town / zazen at Sukyoji-temple / visit Eirakukan Kabuki Theatre
14:00 Leave Izushi and go back to Kinosaki Onsen
15:30 Depart from JR Kinosaki Onsen Station for JR Osaka Station.
18:20 Arrive in Osaka, explore the town and spend the night.

OSAKA / Kansai International Airport

Enjoy one last day in Osaka visiting the castle and tasting the many flavors of this city also known as Japan's Kitchen before heading home via Kansai International Airport.
