Kannabe

Located in close vicinity to Kinosaki are the Kannabe Highlands. From spring to autumn visitors can enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and mountain climbing. In the winter with the coming of the snow, you can also enjoy skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing among other activities. With its diverse collection of activities, Kannabe can be enjoyed all year round and is a popular destination for outdoor activities for people all over the Kansai region.

Activities
Ski Resorts
Ski Resorts

There are several ski resorts in Kannabe. You can find runs for beginners to the advanced skier or snowboarder. Near each resort there are also several rental shops where you can gear, some shops also rent out ski/board suits and accessories. The usual ski/board season starts from mid to late December until late February or mid March depending on that season’s snow fall. On average, the most snow fall occurs January to early or mid February.

Snow Shoeing

Enjoy snow shoeing through fresh, fluffy snow. Equipment and water proof clothing are available to rent (for a fee). First timers are more than welcome. One snow shoeing course will take you around the mouth of Kannabe’s extinct volcano.

Hiking
Hiking

There are several hiking courses located through out Kannabe Highlands. Many of the courses will take to waterfalls hidden in the forests. The best time to enjoy the hiking courses is from spring to fall before the snow and after the snow has melted and the paths are easier to walk.

Lava Flow Hike
Lava Flow Hike

You can walk along the old lava flow that was created when the lava from the Kannabe Volcano flowed into the Inaba River causing it to harden. This then created beautiful scenery and natural formations from deep pools of water to cascading waterfalls. Only mother nature could make something so magnificent. There are over 30 points of interest along the old lava flow that runs for approximately 7km.

Para-gliding
Para-gliding

There are several para-gliding schools that offer half day and full day lessons in Kannabe. Take the chance to glide through the air and over the mountains. You can fly tandem over the volcano as well.

Tree Climbing
Tree Climbing

Climb up into the canopies and enjoy a bird’s eye view of the landscape below. Instructors will help you and make sure that you have a fun and safe experience.

Access

You can get to Kannabe from JR Ebara Station (same line as JR Kinosaki Onsen and JR Toyooka stations) by the public bus “Zentan Bus”. It is about 30 minutes from JR Ebara Station. You can catch the bus at the bus stops located in front of the station.
Take the bus to Kannabe Onsen Yutorogi Mae.
JR Ebara Station is about 20-30 minutes by train from JR Kinosaki Onsen Station and 2.5 hours from JR Kyoto Station and JR Osaka Station. The JR pass can be used to access this station.
